As news oozed of the latest Trump Triumph on Greenland, I watched with shock and awe how many news outlets relayed the Walrus's proclamation of victory. They were somewhat reserved but none of them could produce a single achievement in the US position that was not already there under existing treaties and understandings.

I attach below a version of a piece commissioned by the London Review of Books in the aftermath of 9-11 The editor spiked it and instead published a piece by one of his friends, who was reacting sensitively, of course, to events from 20 miles up the Hudson.
